Testimonials

[CFNEGA’s assistance] was a huge help. I didn’t have any other source of income at the time, and I was going back and forth to the doctor for about three months straight for radiation and chemo. The gas assistance made a huge difference in getting me to treatment.

James, Throat Cancer Patient

When I first started getting treatment, I didn’t have any insurance so [the social worker at NEGA Cancer Care] helped me fill out the applications. Most of what I got went towards paying for medicine because my bills were starting to pile up, but I also got a gas card to help with transportation costs. My ex-husband was receiving treatment at the same time and needed help too, so we filled out the paper work for him.  CFNEGA helped get him a whole case of Ensure because he couldn’t hardly eat anything, which was so helpful because that stuff is so expensive. It helped a lot. Everybody I see when I come into treatment, I tell them how much y’all have helped. I really do tell everybody I can about what you’ve done for us and how appreciative we are.

At the time my husband got diagnosed with cancer, he was already in the middle of a disability claim, and then the cancer came upon us. I had limited insurance benefits from my job, and really and truly, this program stepped in and helped us out a lot. I couldn’t afford his medications, and I really want to thank y’all for all that you did.  Y’all helped with our electric bills, medication, and even some transportation costs. It really took some of the pressure off of our money matters. The social workers were so helpful, too. Anytime I had questions, they answered them and always gave comfort and words for us. Whatever y’all are doing , keep on doing it. So many people need more help like this.

Everything [CFNEGA] did for me was really helpful to me and my family. They provided me with money to buy gas and helped pay my power bills. They always asked how I was doing and always asked about my family too which really meant a lot to me.

Joe, Prostate Cancer Patient

Oh, [CFNEGA’s assistance] was very helpful, and it took a lot of stress off of me. CFNEGA paid for my rent until I learned I was about to move, then, instead of paying for my rent I asked if they could pay for my eye glasses which cost over three hundred dollars. They were happy to cover the cost, and I was so thankful because I wouldn’t have been able to get them on my own. Now I’m in full remission from [multiple types of] cancer, and I am so thankful for the work [CFNEGA] does. It’s people like you guys that really make it possible for those in my position to not be so stressed out because they can’t cover the costs of the things they need. I find it a blessing to be able to share my story with anybody if it means giving something back to [CFNEGA].

Barbara, Colon Cancer Patient

Being diagnosed with cancer is a difficult time in someone’s life.  But if you add to that the loss of income because you can not work that was further compounded by the poor economy and the sudden lay off in my husband’s field and loss of that income and our insurance, it can be devastating. The  Foundation went right to work to help get us funds to pay many of our basic needs the first month in this hard time. Being a couple who worked and raised six children and never had to seek outside help this could have been a humiliating or embarrassing time but these people were so good at what they do, were made to feel comfortable with the process.
Thank you Cancer  Foundation  of Northeast Georgia for helping us come a step closer to maintaining our independence during a crisis.
Sincerely,

Linda and Donnie Welch

I am on 60% disability and my husband is in school. Our budget is really tight. My mom was helping with the bills, but they just couldn’t get paid. We are living off pennies and the companies were threatening to turn everything off and it was just one thing after the next. My husband and I put off getting help because we don’t like to ask for help and we thought it was going to be a long involved process with credit reports, bills from the last six months, birth certificates and everything, but it was not like that. The foundation helped us immediately and the application was easy to understand. It took such a load off our minds. It helped us a great deal. I don’t know what we would’ve done without it!

I was diagnosed with colon cancer and received help from the foundation. Due to my chemotherapy and medication I have to take I am always cold. I got behind on my gas bill and the company was threatening to turn off the gas. The foundation helped pay the bill and my gas stayed on. Now, I am warm and smiling. The foundation was God sent.

Mrs. I Smith

I have C.M.L Leukemia and I have to go to M.D. Anderson every 6 months for treatment. This sometimes causes me to have financial problems but the Cancer Foundation of Northeast Georgia is there for me. The foundation's financial assistance program has helped me with my lights, rent, and food. I feel like the foundation is there for me and I am thankful.

I had been without a lot for a while, struggling with bills and other things like food and gas while trying to pay for treatment. But God has bleesed me a lot, and [CFNEGA's assistance] was definitely a blessing. It helped me get food for my kids and other things in a time of need.

Janette Davis

CFNEGA was a tremendous help because I had no insurance and had problems getting Medicaid. My medication was so expensive that I couldn't afford it or the gas to go pick it up. [CFNEGA's help] got me there. Y'all were a true blessing.

James Smith

I had been paying rent on my own while trying to save money for dental work I need as a result of chemo, but this summer I just couldn't cover my rent anymore. I asked CFNEGA for help and they came through for me at a time I really needed it.

Breast Cancer Patient

After I got sick, [CFNEGA] helped me a whole lot by paying some bills for me. If it hadn't been for [their] help, I don't know what I would've done. I definitely appreciate everything [they] have done for me and am so thankful to everyone involved.

We were all devastated when my mom passed away, even though we knew it was coming. But I know she is much happier where she is now than she would be here, today. I have told everyone about y'all, because CFNEGA was such a help in providing for us and even directing us to other helpful resources and services. The information y'all were able to give us was incredibly useful, and from my entire family I want to say how thankful we are. I remember one time specifically, mom needed a certain type of catheter that we were having trouble getting, and even though we'd ordered it, it hadn't come in the mail. I was beside myself and knew she needed it so I called [one of the resources CFNEGA directed us to] and asked for help. Within an hour and forty-five minutes of that phone call, we got the catheter we needed. It was amazing, and I tell people that story all the time. We appreciate every bit of help you provided. You made her last days so much easier.
