Kimberly Liebowitz is the first employee hired to work for The Cancer Foundation in January 2008. Kimberly has always had a passion for helping others, specifically helping cancer patients and their families. She holds a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia, with a master's level certification in nonprofit management. As a nonprofit executive, she performs need assessments, engages in fundraising, grant writing and program evaluation. She implements strategic goals and objectives for the organization, and actively recruits the community members to support The Cancer Foundation’s mission.
Kimberly actively participates as a member of the Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary, Athens-Clarke County Chamber Ambassadors, and the 1919 Athens Regional Foundation Young Professional Board, and is a LEAD Athens alumna. She is a sustainer of the Junior League of Athens and named to Athens Banner Herald’s Exceptional in 2011, and is a member of Athens First United Methodist church. She resides in Oconee County with her husband, Ryan, twins Anna and Jacob (1 ½ year old) and 8-year-old golden retriever Ally. In her spare time, she loves to garden and train for her next half marathon.
special events and communications coordinator
Haley Avery has been employed with The Cancer Foundation as the Special Events and Communications Coordinator since January 2014. She has a corporate and sales marketing background with emphasis in event design and planning, and enjoys translating those skills to The Cancer Foundation. She is the behind-the-scenes point-of-contact behind all special events and communications between the Foundation, donors, and event guests. She is an active member of Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary and Athens Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors.
Haley is originally from Hartwell, Georgia, but has lived in Athens since 2002 when she began attending the University of Georgia. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English, with minors in Italian and Classical Culture. Haley has been happily married to her husband, Todd, an Athens' native, since 2013 and they are expecting their first baby in April. Outside of work, Haley enjoys water and snow sports, reading about design trends, gardening and shopping.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR
Stacey has been employed part-time for almost three years. Stacey approves all financial assistance applications and works closely with surrounding-area referral professionals, including social workers, nurses and patient navigators. At work, Stacey most enjoys calling patients to tell them they have been approved for financial assistance and their bills have been paid. It is extremely rewarding to know the Foundation is making such a difference in the lives of local cancer patients.
Stacey is a native of Madison County, Georgia and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia in 2000. When not at work, Stacey is busy with her husband, Jerry, three kids, two dogs and two turtles. In her fleeting spare time, she loves to read and is always ready for a trip to the beach!
Prospect Researcher and Development Coordinator
The Cancer Foundation’s newest hire, she has been employed full-time with The Cancer Foundation since August 2016. Prior to her full-time employment, she served as the Foundation’s Special Event Intern from January-August 2016. Primarily, Gabby researches and writes grant proposals, and oversees the Foundation’s annual campaign activities. Gabby’s favorite part of her job is finding new foundations, corporations and organizations to educate about The Cancer Foundation.
Born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, Gabby received a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science in 2015, and her Master of Arts in Nonprofit Organizations in 2016, both from the University of Georgia. When not at work, Gabby is busy being a supportive military spouse to her new husband, Jamie, who serves in the Army National Guard.
